Throwback To An Often Overlooked Gem From The 90s – Fallen

“Time is on my side, yes it is!”

Today we’re opening the brain vault and taking a look at a movie from 1998 with a solid cast and a detective story with a supernatural twist. It didn’t break the mold or reinvent the wheel, but I always enjoyed this one and I don’t see it mentioned often.

The Good:

– The acting is excellent. With Denzel as the lead, that was pretty much a lock, supporting cast includes John Goodman, Donald Sutherland, James Gandolfini, and Embeth Davidtz. Also a brief yet excellent performance by Elias Koteas really kicks things off.

– The story. Blending the vibe of a detective thriller with a bit of the supernatural, I really enjoyed the premise.

What Could Be Improved:

I think with a story like this, the direction could have done a little more to keep a bit of mystery for the audience, who is demystified well before our hero. When you are playing with a bit of mystery, misdirection is useful to keep the plot developing in a way that keeps the mystery intact for the audience as well.

That said, I always liked this one since I was a weeeee little kid XD

“Remember this, Hobbes… what goes around really goes around.”

What do you all think? Seen it? Love it? Hate it? Middle of the pack? Needed more Goodman (everything could use more Goodman)?
